The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has called on the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to recall parliament, urging the NDC to file a motion to impeach President Akufo- Addo.
According to them, Ghanaians deserve better leadership, hence their disappointment on how the NDC failed to take decisive action towards the shift in parliamentary power.
The group stated that, “they anticipated that the NDC would immediately seize this moment to invoke Article 69 of the 1992 Constitution towards the removal of President Akufo-Addo who has consistently acted in willful violation of the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath set out in the Second Schedule and has conducted himself in a manner which brings the high office of President into disrepute, ridicule or contempt and has behaved in a manner that is prejudicial or inimical to the economy or the security of the State”.
“In a deeply disappointing and alarming failure, the NDC has done nothing. On 22nd October 2024, despite holding the majority, the NDC couldn’t even muster a quorum to solidify their position. Worse still, they failed to prepare a vote of no confidence or pursue the impeachment of a president whose incompetence is evident to all Ghanaians”.
EFL mentioned that President Akufo- Addo, shows his lack of leadership, particularly in addressing the devastation caused by illegal mining (galamsey) due to his own complicity, which has further fueled the people’s demand for his removal from office as president.
The group indicated that, with parliament suspended, the executive and judiciary who now have their power inchecked.
