A group of young children have been spotted in what appears to be a cocoa farm, engaging in illegal mining ‘galamsey’ activities.

From the video, the four young boys can be seen digging and washing the sand in search of gold.

Sadly, one can hear the voices of grownups in the background, which are the suspected voices of their parents or guardians who took them to the galamsey site.

These children who are of school going age would rather be dragged to galamsey sites to mine, rather than clothed in school uniforms and be seated in the classroom to acquire knowledge.

Galamsey has grown exponentially in Ghana as water bodies and farmlands have become victims of these illegal practices, causing immense pollution to the environment.

As a leader in this country, how does this situation make you feel? How do you manage to sleep at night knowing that innocent kids are getting caught up in this? pic.twitter.com/0FTKkVdPij
