The Alliance for the Protection and Advancement of Democracy, Ghana (AFTPAD-GH) held a press conference on today Tuesday , October 10,2024 to voice serious concerns about the state of Ghana’s democracy as the 2024 general elections approach.
AFTPAD-GH criticized the leadership of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by the chairperson Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare, alleging that their conduct has diminished public trust and heightened political tension across the nation.
the spokesperson for AFTPAD-GH, Chief Boso emphasized the vital need for the EC to operate as a neutral body in a democratic governance system.
Highlighting specific grievances, Chief Boso detailed critical issues the EC has reportedly failed to address, which include the need for forensic audits of the voter register, allegations of illegal transfers, and discrepancies in polling data management.
He pointed out that, suggestions from well-meaning organizations and opposition parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have gone unacknowledged by the EC.
AFTPAD-GH stressed that the youth play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the upcoming elections, asserting that their hopes for the future hinge on a transparent electoral process.
They warned that any attempts to undermine the will of the electorate would be met with strong resistance.
