A Journalist with Adom FM Akwasi Nsiah has boldly stated that the government of Ghana should not pay striking UTAG members.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) declared an indefinite strike, effective October 10, 2024, following an overwhelming vote in favor of industrial action to support a nationwide ban on mining and prospecting activities in ecologically sensitive areas.

This comes after organized labor yesterday called off its planned nationwide strike against galamsey slated for today October 10.

Reacting to the news of the nationwide strike by UTAG, Adom FM Journalist claimed the strike by UTAG does not make sense and no presidency in the world can meet their demands in a short period.

Adom FM Journalist said, “It is not possible, we should tell them the truth, some of us also support the calls that if you dare declare the strike government should not pay you, we are suffering, every single opportunity some lazy teachers want to take advantage, and students will be at a disadvantage.

He questioned the teachers to ask themselves the number of strikes they have embarked on in the educational sector.  “Every year teachers go on strike, we cant come and use my tax to pay someone lazy and at home, you will be at home and do a different work and when the month ends you will still demand that government pays you, it is a cheat”, Akwasi Nsiah reiterated.

He claimed boldly that the strike by UTAG does not add up and called on the Controller and Accountant General and the Ministry of Education to take on UTAG.

What Prof Gyampo and his UTAG are doing is an illegality and the law must take them on.

I strongly support Akwasi Nsiah’s comment. You can’t stay at home for baseless reasons and expect to be paid at the end of the month. pic.twitter.com/Nfute8cAr7
