The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), has disclosed that the country’s rising inflation rate is largely dependent on the high food inflation.

According to data Ghana’s food inflation rate for September surged to 22.1 percent as against 19.1 percent in August 2024.

Currently, the prices our favourite Ghanaian meals or let us say food of convenience, thus readily available and affordable foods have risen, with the ordinary John barely scoring three square meals a day.

Some of the most popular delicacies of the ordinary Ghanaian are Fired Plantain and Beans, affectionately called ‘gob3’. Gob3 has seen an astronomical rise, with the price now haven risen by 31.2%.

The popular Kenkey with Fried Fish a popular food originating from the Ga community has also increased by 20.1%, whereas the tasty Fufu & soup, predominant within the Akan community has also risen by 15.9%.

Here’s how some of our favourite meals have been impacted by inflation (Year-on-year as of September 2024):
Fried Plantain & Beans: 31.2%
Kenkey with Fried Fish: 20.1%
Fufu & Soup: 15.9%
