A 62 year old protestor, has cried out for the release of her children who are in police detention for protesting in the Democracy Hub demonstration against illegal mining (galamsey).
The heartbroken woman who joined the #FreeTheCitizens demonstration, lamented the state of Ghana’s water bodies a result of galamsey activities, whiles calling for the release of her children.
“Free my children, I need my children. I am a mother, I want my children back and we don’t want anymore galamsey water. Stop killing us. Stop punishing us for fighting for clean water,” she was heard saying in a video.
She demanded the release of her children, stating they have committed no sin for embarking on the Democracy Hub demonstration. “This is the sin,” she said holidng up a bottle of unclean water, a representation of the state of water bodies polluted by galamsey.
“This is killing us. Let my children out, they don’t have a father, they only have a mother. Let them out,” she said with her voice breaking.
“Free my children and stop punishing us for fighting for clean water. We don’t want galamsey water anymore,” 62-year-old woman cries out.
