Ghanaian media personality, Captain Smart has warned Ghanaians against trusting the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the December 7, 2024 elections has proffered some solutions to Ghana’s illegal mining menace.
Dr. Bawumia addressing stakeholders in Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region said his administration will permit registered small-scale miners to make full use of data from the geological survey authority in their work.
“We want to implement something new which is that we would cause the geological survey authority to map the exact location of gold deposits in mining area so that mining will not just be digging from place to place, the miners will know exactly where the gold is,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Dr. Bawumia received applause from some notable politicians and media personalities, who touted his approach to galamsey as the most practical they have ever heard.
However, some have also criticized him, telling him to implement this policy as he has the power to do so, and not promise it as a campaign message.
Not long after, a similar message candidate Dr. Bawumia shared in 2016 when the NPP was vying for power has re-surfaced.
In the video, he was seen chastising the then ruling government, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for doing the same thing he is now doing.
In the video, he is heard saying, “If you knew you had the plans that could work on the economy why haven’t you implemented that plan in 8 years. Why? If you know what can work for the economy why is the economy collapsing in your hands after 8 years.”
These words have been likened to his solution against galamsey. With people also asking him why has he not implemented those bold solutions in his 8 years of being in power, and is now professing it.
