A District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru, Central Region, has set aside an injunction against Cynthia Morrison’s candidacy as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Agona West Constituency.

The injunction had previously prevented her from presenting herself as a candidate until the court fully resolved an ongoing legal case.

Cynthia Morrison, who won the Agona West parliamentary seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016 and 2020, decided to run independently after alleging that her party treated her unfairly during the internal primary for the 2024 election.

However, the plaintiff, Emmanuel Addison, is challenging her eligibility to contest in the constituency while residing in the Agona East constituency.

A similar case was heard in 2020, which Morrison won.
The lawyers for the MP led by Ishmael Kofi Turkson, have additionally filed a motion seeking the transfer of the case from the District Court to the High Court.

In an interview with Kasapa News’ Yaw Boagyan, Morrison stated that she is unfazed by the current developments.

She also hinted that other individuals are planning to sue her and demand accountability regarding her tenure as the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, specifically concerning COVID-19 funds allocated to her.

She challenged them to proceed with their lawsuits, asserting her readiness to face them head-on.

The case has been adjourned to October 25, 2024.
