Ghana Post is facing heavy criticism over an alleged GH¢4.1 million extravagant expenditure on the Otumfuo commemorative stamp launched in honor of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to concerned workers who spoke anonymously, the entire expenditure lacked transparency, with management allegedly using the Asantehene’s name to obscure the full details. The workers are now preparing for a confrontation with the company’s leadership, including involving the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate the matter and uncover the truth.

The concerned staff described the situation as “a gargantuan rot that has taken over Ghana Post” and urged the OSP to intervene immediately to stop further malpractices. They claimed the GH¢4.1 million was spent on printing cryptocurrency stamps, launching them in London and Ghana, and other related services during the commemorative event in May of this year.

This latest controversy comes amidst growing dissatisfaction among Ghana Post employees, who have raised issues around staff promotions, long service awards, retirees’ benefits, and operational resources like vehicles and staff buses. Recently, employees, donned in red armbands, protested over the procurement of generators for the Managing Director Bice Obour Osei Kuffour and his Deputy, Kwaku Tabi Amponsah, alleging that the process lacked transparency.

Additionally, they accused the Managing Director and his Deputy of allegedly allowing their wives to take over saloon vehicles meant for their official use. These allegations have further fueled the unrest among the staff of Ghana’s national postal service.
