Chief Justice shuts down 7 courts over disturbance in Bawku

Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has ordered the closure of seven courts in Bawku and adjoining communities in the upper east and north east regions over recent voilent clashes led by the presence of Seidu Abagre, who was controversially enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023, that has claimed several lives and injured others.

The courts affected include the High Court, Circuit Court, and District Court in Bolgatanga, District Court Zuarungu, District Court Zebilla, District Court, Garu and District Court, Bongo .

a statement issued by the Judicial Secretary yesterday October 29, said “in order to ensure the safety and security of Judges, Staff, Lawyers and Court Users, the Honourable Lady Chief Justice has ordered the closure of the courts with immediate effect, until further notice.”

The statement further said that the registrars are to keep all assets of the Courts in proper custody and all Staff are to stay safe.
