A video has emerged online of some Changfan machine operators busily operating on the already “milo” looking River Offin.
In the viral video posted by TV3, the operators were seen operating directly on the river.
Illegal mining popularly Known as galamsey has polluted major rivers in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the Queen mother of Abesua a community close to the River Offin has asked some farmers in the area to leave if they cannot co-exist with chanfan operators.
The state of major rivers in Ghana, The Tano, Birim, Ankobrah, and Pra among others, have deteriorated since illegal mining has become out of control in recent years.
The Ghana Water Company has stated numerous times they are unable to treat the water for its consumers due to the turbidity of the water from these galamsey-affected rivers, forcing the company’s treatment plant in some regions to shut down on some occasions.
Ghanaians have been calling on the government to impose an urgent ban on mining activities.
