Chairman of all the Zongo Chiefs in Ashanti Region, Sariki Muntaka Mohammed, and a known member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the dedication of the NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the welfare of all Ghanaians, regardless of party colours led him to make that decision.
He disclosed that some time in the past, Dr. Bawumia donated a truck load of cement and Ghc20,000 for the construction of a mosque, when he was well aware he (Sariki Muntaka Mohammed) was an NDC man.
“I was asked if I had left the NDC and I said I swear by my father that I have left the NDC,” he stated.
He called on the Muslim community to throw their weight behind Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, “and that is why I have defected to the NPP.”
