Vice-president IMANI Africa, Bright Simons says there must be an error in a new tender from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the construction of a corporate office in Tamale.
This comes after the Auditor General’s report in 2023 flagged a giant leap in BoG’s foreign exchange payments, which was somewhat linked to the same office construction.
Bright Simons pointed out portions of the Auditor General’s report which showed the BoG had already spent $84 million in 2022, a significant portion of foreign exchange payments, on the above project. The report attributes 30.7% of the total payments of $117 million to the construction of the Tamale office, alongside infrastructure for the African Games.
BoG recently issued a tender for the construction of a corporate office in Tamale, with a deadline of September 5, 2024.
“If such substantial payments were already allocated to the project, why is a new tender being issued in 2024 for the same office? Was the previous funding used effectively, or is there a gap in the project’s completion and accountability?” he raised concerns over why another tender is being issued for a project that was supposedly already accounted for in the previous payments.
