Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, a former board member of Asante Kotoko and a key figure in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has passed away at the age of 60. The news of his passing was confirmed by Metro TV.

Yamoah Ponko had been battling an illness for several weeks before succumbing on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Though the exact cause of his death has not been disclosed, his passing marks the end of an impactful career in both sports and politics.

Before his time with Asante Kotoko, Yamoah Ponko served as the Chief Executive of the Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Assembly, where he was recognized for his contributions to the development of the community. He later became a prominent figure in Asante Kotoko, playing an instrumental role in the football club’s affairs.
