The Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon), widely considered the “Greatest of All Time” in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), faced a surprising defeat at this year’s quarter-finals. In a gripping showdown, Mfantsipim School, Ghana’s oldest secondary school, edged out the defending champions by a single point, knocking them out of the competition.

Mfantsipim, commonly known as “Botwe,” matched PRESEC point-for-point throughout the contest, and ultimately scored 53 points to PRESEC’s 52. This loss has sent waves across social media, with the Against Support Union (ASU) and fans of rival schools buzzing with reactions, celebrating Botwe’s stunning victory. The final scores were:

  • Mfantsipim School: 53 points
  • Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School: 52 points
  • Osei Tutu Senior High School: 27 points

Mfantsipim’s victory puts an end to PRESEC’s campaign for a record 10th NSMQ trophy, further intensifying the NSMQ’s reputation as an unpredictable and fiercely competitive event.
