Former Works and Housing Minister Samuel Atta Akyea has stated that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should not be held responsible for decisions made by President Akufo-Addo, emphasizing that Bawumia is not directly tied to every government action.
In an interview on Asaasepa Radio, Atta Akyea explained that Dr. Bawumia’s role is to advise President Akufo-Addo, particularly on economic matters, but that the President ultimately holds the authority to make decisions. He pointed out that there is a misconception that Bawumia should be blamed for all government actions simply because he is part of Akufo-Addo’s administration.
“Vice President Bawumia offers his advice, but the final decision always lies with the President,” Atta Akyea said. He dismissed the notion that the two leaders share the same responsibilities or think alike, saying, “They are not Siamese twins—they have separate minds and roles.”
Atta Akyea went on to express his confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to lead Ghana effectively, arguing that he is more capable than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Mahama. He referred to Bawumia as “Mr. Digital,” highlighting his efforts in economic management and modernization, in contrast to what he described as Mahama’s failed leadership during the energy crisis.
“Bawumia has done commendable work for Ghana, even though he wasn’t the final decision-maker. He will be a far better president for this country than John Mahama,” Atta Akyea asserted.
