The MPs impacted by the decision are Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central (NDC), Andrew Amoakoh Asiama of Fomena, Kojo Asante of Suhum (NPP), and Cynthia Morrison of Agona West (NPP).

This follows a formal petition submitted by Haruna Iddrisu, an NDC MP, to the Speaker.

The declaration came after thorough deliberations and arguments from both the Majority and Minority factions of Parliament regarding the petition filed by the former NDC Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

The petition, invoking Article 97 (1)(g) of the Constitution, targeted three New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs and one NDC MP.

This provision requires an MP to vacate their seat if they leave the party under which they were elected or try to remain in Parliament as an independent candidate.

The situation has intensified political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, sparking considerable debate within Parliament.
