The Deputy Chief of Staff, Fawaz Aliu, has received a significant petition from members of the Catholic Archdiocese and Conferences of Major Superiors of Accra at the Jubilee House.

Members of the Catholic Archdiocese and Conferences of Major Superiors of Accra today walked through the streets of Accra to raise awareness about the severe impacts of illegal mining urging the government to declare a state of emergency.

The walk which began at the Holy Spirit Cathedral will end with a petition to president Akuffo addo at Jubilee House, and a mass at Christ the King Parish.

The march has gained support from various groups, including the Crusaders against Corruption and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASSAG), along with other civil society organizations, all pressing the government to impose a blanket ban on illegal mining.

Participants holding placards some of which reads “ there is No Planet B, Students Education is at Risk ,End Galamsey, GRASSAG wants a sustainable Ghana” amongst others have been sharing their concerns and demands with the media.

During the gathering, Aliu expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised in the petition.

He acknowledged the Church’s role in advocating for sustainable practices and promised that President Akufo-Addo would take the petition seriously.
