Adhere to concerns by citizen to declare a state of emergency –  Amoafo to Prez Akuffo Addo

Former executive director for Amnesty international, Robert Akoto Amoafo is calling on government to as a matter of urgency adhere to the concerns of citizens including organized labour to address the illegal mining menace.

According to him, president Akufo-Addo’s silence to their concerns is worrying.

On Thursday October 3,2024 thousands of youth gathered at okponglo to participate in the three days protest dubbed #FreeTheCitizens aimed at pushing for the release of 53 anti-galamsey protesters.

The demo also seeks to denounce illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, which has been a long-standing environmental and social issue in the country.

Speaking to YawaNews , Mr Akoto said People may take the law into their own hands if the government doesn’t take serious action to show its commitment to the fight.
