Eight (8) people were killed after a group of armed men, reported to be wielding AK-47 rifles, blocked the Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway near Gbimsi, in the North East region.

They set two (2) vehicles ablaze and attacked passengers in a violent incident linked to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

According to reports, the attackers halted vehicles and interrogated passengers, in search for individuals from Bawku, who were their primary targets.
These attacks follow the resurrection of tensions in the Bawku chieftaincy disputes.

The events unfolded not long after chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre, one of the people laying claim to the Bawku chieftaincy title returned to Bawku after the Kumasi High Court revoked his arrest warrant on October 17, 2024.
