Popular Ghanaian YouTuber, Wode Maya, is currently facing backlash from supporters of the NPP following a comment he made on Facebook criticising the incumbent government over the arrest and detention of some 39 protestors.

In a Facebook post. Wode Maya said,  “This is not the Ghana we know! #FreetheCitizens”.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, in response to the post pointed out that a similar incident had took place in Kenya, the home country of Wode Maya’s wife.

He went on to share a story published by Aljazeera about the arrest of some 270 Kenyan protestors adding, “This happened in your wife’s country, Kenya. The GH protestors were arrested for taking the law into their hands and creating

inconvenience for road users”.

Responding to the post Wode Maya said, “I was definitely not expecting a wise response from you considering your cover photo”.

Wode Maya’s response has sparked intense reactions and ignited a debate on Facebook.

His comment, together with the fact that Mr. Ofosu Nkansah’s cover photo features Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 election, has been widely interpreted as a direct critique of the NPP and its supporters.

This remark has drawn sharp criticism, with some perceiving it as an attack on the political views of those aligned with the ruling party.

In response to the comment, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah announced that he has unfollowed the influencer on social media.

The backlash was immediate, with NPP loyalists expressing their disapproval on social media.

While some are calling for an apology from Wode Maya, others also see his statement as merely a personal opinion.

Supporters of the NPP are however accusing the YouTuber of using his platform to disrespect and belittle a large portion of the Ghanaian population.
