In a revealing conversation with Philip Nii Lartey on Citi FM’s #CommunityForum, a fisherman from Shama has expressed his frustration over the current economic conditions.

He together with many others in the community have voiced their concerns about how they have been abandoned by the NPP political leaders in the community.

“We can’t even tell if the NPP came for our good or evil. As it stands, we’ve heard nothing from them. We will advise ourselves…” the fisherman said, pointing to the silence from the government on critical issues affecting their livelihoods.

According to him, the community has been struggling with high costs of living, due to the constant rise in fuel prices.

“It has made it difficult for fishermen to sustain their businesses and also, we have no sea defense wall here so when the water comes to the shore, it destroys our properties and since there is no one we to help or build us a sea defense wall, we move on” he lamented.

He pleaded with the government to come to their aid because fishing is their only means of survival and is what they depend on to make ends meet and take care of their families.

“For me, I have decided to vote for the NDC in the upcoming elections because I know that if they come to power, they will build us a sea defense wall to prevent our properties from being destroyed. I’m not listening to anyone from the NPP anymore” he emphasized.

Many fishermen in Shama have expressed their growing dissatisfaction with the government’s inability to provide relief, especially given the vital role the fishing industry plays in the local economy.

They warn that if no action is taken immediately, they will be forced to make their own decisions by voting for the NDC in the coming elections.
