Ghanaian politician and civil engineer, Kwabena Agyapong has called out to Ursula Owusu, as the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, to intervene in getting telcos to reduce the high cost of data.

Speaking with Kwame Sefa-Kayi in an interview on Peace FM monitored by Yawa News, Kwabena Agyapong stressed on the fact that DSTV and data subscriptions are more expensive in Ghana compared to some other African countries and even the US.

“Ministry of Communication needs to do something about it. Nigerians pay less than us and South Africans also pay less than us. The ministry should be on the side of Ghanaians. It’s data so I don’t understand why we Ghanaians have to pay even more than those in America”, he said.

“These are the things that Ursula, if you’re listening to me, you need to look at for us because the telcos are cheating us. If we can afford DSTV, retirement would not be so scary because at least you can watch history channels and the likes”, the politician proposed.

Kwabena Agyapong arrived at this conversation while hinting on his plan for retirement. “I’m growing older so if my party is in power, I know that I can cross my legs at home and still get money to pay my DSTV subscription”, he shared.

The high cost of data subscription has been an issue of public discussion in Ghana for sometime now, however, that has not been solved since, and has now become an avenue for campaign promises ahead of the 2024 December elections.
