Hiplife icon Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru NKZ, has been reinstated in the University of Ghana’s SRC presidential race after initially being disqualified due to his non-residential status.
Guru challenged the decision by filing a petition against the University’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Electoral Commission.
His disqualification had been based on Article 30, which requires candidates to be campus residents and eligible to contest for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position in their hall.
Guru filed a petition against the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Electoral Commission after his disqualification from the presidential race.
The disqualification was based on the Hiplife icon’s non-resident status, a violation of Article 30, which mandates that candidates must be campus residents and eligible to contest for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position in their hall.
“Having carefully considered the submission of both parties and examined the relevant provisions of the SRC Constitution, the Court finds merit in the applicant’s arguments. The disqualification of the applicants; Mr. Maradona Adjei Yeboah, Mr. Lawrence Edinam Egleh, as purportedly being non-residents, lacking the capacity to run for SRC elections lacks reasonable basis”.
“Furthermore, the interpretation the Vetting Committee sought to apply article 30(1)(a) of the UGSRC Constitution is flawed in it’s entirety as they were made without proper justification and proper understanding of the provisions. I will therefore grant the reliefs sought by the applicant” parts of press release read.
The rapper’s presidential aspiration and all the ridicule he faced during his disqualification has been rekindled after the ruling went in his favor.
