Ghanaian broadcast journalist and host of Angel FM’s Morning Show, Okatakyie Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, says galamseyers are after his life.
During an episode of his show, he shared with his co-hosts a CCTV footage from his home which allegedly shows a man sitting in front of his house for fifty minutes, with the intention of monitoring his movements in order to make a calculated move to kill him for fighting against galamsey. He did not air the video for safety reasons.
“He was monitoring my movements. The time I come back home and all that. I’ve already told these people that when you come after me, I won’t wait. I’ll let my people come after you and they’ll be in your shadows. Now you’ll be the one running and you won’t be at peace because wherever you go, my people will be following you. I’m sparing you for now and that’s why I’m not putting the video on air now”, he threatened the alleged assassin.
Afrifa reported that these galamseyers have been monitoring his house for the past two weeks, and had already been to his house the previous weekend to look for him, however, he was out of the house hence, they went to his neighbor to confirm if that was his house, to which she confirmed as she did not know their motive.
He continued, “The day I saw one of them, I went into my house and came back out, and I stood there quietly looking at his face. He was very lucky. I should’ve taken two of my guns to show to him and ask him which of them he would like me to kill them with if they show up again”.
Afrifa emphatically stated, “I will kill you. I’m not joking. Infact not me, we will kill you. Someone should dare make a move and let’s see”.
Okatakyie Afrifa has taken upon himself to champion the fight against galamsey, from calling out people involved to investigating and monitoring to have galamseyers arrested. About two weeks ago, he caused the arrest of two Chinese galamseyers on the River Tano and this seems to be inviting trouble for him.
