After government’s failure to pay outstanding allowances owed to the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the association has announced an indefinite strike across the country.

Administrators at 15 public universities locked their offices with heavy padlocks in protest over the unpaid allowances.
GAUA’s decision to strike stems from delays in implementing negotiated conditions of service provisions.

Despite reaching an agreement with the government in July 2024, all efforts to urge the government and relevant agencies to fulfill their commitments have been unsuccessful.

The association highlighted that, although an agreement in principle was reached regarding the payment of Non-Payment of Online Teaching Support Allowances (OTSA) to eligible staff, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has continued to hinder progress, making it impossible to finalize negotiations.

GAUA is calling for the immediate conclusion of negotiations for the payment of Online Teaching Support Allowances (OTSA) and demands that outstanding issues in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) be addressed without delay.
