Crusader against state capture Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who’s also Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has revealed that 11 acres of the Trade Fair lands are unaccounted for in the records of the Lands Commission.

This loss was discovered after a demarcation conducted by an unidentified party.

Ablakwa shared these details during an appearance on Key Points, a program on TV3, noting that the missing land was identified in October 2020.

Ablakwa also praised his fellow MPs for sponsoring a private member’s bill aimed at combating state capture. During the same discussion, Yaw Buaben Asamoa called for the resignation or dismissal of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, citing the minister’s failure in addressing land grabs and illegal mining, or galamsey, issues under his oversight.

Buaben Asamoa urged for accountability and added that labour unions should include land grabbing and state capture among their grievances.

The Ghana Trade Fair site, which covers 236.96 acres, is currently undergoing redevelopment. Dr. Agnes Adu, CEO of the Trade Fair Centre, explained that the site will be transformed into a mixed-use commercial estate with facilities such as shopping malls, offices, leisure centers, and hotels.

The redevelopment aims to create a smart, sustainable enclave to support businesses and promote both local and international trade, in line with the government’s industrialization efforts.
