According to the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, government has the law at its disposal to crackdown on galamsey without hesitation.

Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi stated that if the fight against galamsey is not won, then it means “they (gov’t) do not want to stop it (galamsey) and care less about our lives.”

“That is why we call for immediate and decisive action by the government. We urge gov’t who has the power and can do it and change things if they decide to do it. They have the backing of the law and everything to stop it (galamsey) and if they do not stop it,” he added.

The cleric charged government to put an end to lip service when it comes to the fight against galamsey. He warned that if this is not done, the government will be held responsible by the citizenry, “and we the populace will do what we can to protect our lives.”
