Duhoe took the stage holding a placard with the message “#StopGalamseyNow” and his mouth sealed with tape, highlighting his stance against illegal mining (galamsey) and its devastating impact on Ghana’s environment, particularly water bodies.

He was awarded for his impactful story titled “Resilient North Tongu Women Take Care of Their Families Despite Devastation from Dam Spillage.”

Duhoe’s bold gesture, made in front of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has gone viral on social media, sparking renewed calls for government action against the environmental and human toll of illegal mining.

His silent protest, combined with his compelling storytelling, has earned him widespread admiration, with many calling on the president to address the dire situation of rural communities struggling to access clean water due to the ongoing environmental degradation caused by galamsey.
