Arise Ghana has postponed its ‘Family Values’ march from September 17, 2024 to October 8,2024, placing intense pressure on the Supreme Court to take action on the ant-gay bill.

According to Sam George, a key sponsor of the anti-LGBTQ bill, the move is to avoid conflicting with a protest organized by the NDC to demand that the EC ensures free and fair elections.

Addressing the media on the postponement of the walk and the need for a quick action by the Supreme Court on the matter, he said, “There is no matter before the Supreme Court that is more important than a determination on this matter which stays both the hands of the legislature and executive. There is no case before the Supreme Court in Ghana today that affects both the legislature and executive, for which reason we believe this must be primus inter pares. There was a quorum judgement in support by this Lordship Justice Yonny Kulendi.”

He believes that in light of the judgements which deal extensively with the same issues raised by Amanda Odoi and Richard Dela Sky, the Chief Justice must empanel the Supreme Court and determine the matter in tandem with her colleagues.

In light of these happenings, Arise Ghana has decided to postpone the Family Values march from 17th September to the 8th of October to allow for “the political demonstration to happen, and all of its consequences to be done and then the next available date we were able to arrive at with the regional command was the 8th of October.”
