Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and now Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute has reacted to John Mahama latest comment on galamsey.
In the video posted by Koku Anyidoho, the flagbearer for the NDC was reacting to how he is going to deal with the galamsey menace, he said, “I will not deceive you, it needs courage because one gold is holding Ghana now, before galamsey we were doing 80 tonnes, with galamsey we are doing 135 tonnes per year the additional tonnes are from galamsey”.
“So, we must be prepared to sacrifice in the fight against galamsey, production will come down meaning export will reduce, and then also the issue of employment, because of lack of employment many youths are engaged in galamsey and if you stop galamsey now a lot of young people will be unemployed.
Former President Mahama in the video stated those are the two consequences putting on the table before he starts the galamsey fight.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute reacting to John Mahama stated, “This is supposed to be the alternative? Phew! I weep for Ghana my Motherland. No wonder he will grant amnesty to all offenders to feel free to create more destruction of water bodies”.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Water Company has stated on numerous occasions they are unable to treat the water for its consumers due to the turbidity of the water from this galamsey affected rivers, forcing the company’s treatment plant in some regions to shut down on some occasions.
