Yaw Binkoni, a Polling Station Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wulensi Constituency, has been suspended from the party effective immediately due to his support for an Independent Parliamentary Candidate. The NPP leadership has deemed this involvement a serious breach of the party’s constitution.

In a formal notification, party officials outlined that Binkoni’s actions violated Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP Constitution, which prohibits members from supporting or campaigning for independent candidates or those from other political parties.

The official statement reads: “I write to formally notify you of your suspension from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with immediate effect, pursuant to your actions in contravention of the NPP Constitution and the party’s rules and regulations. It has come to the attention of the leadership of the party that you have actively participated in and aligned yourself with the campaign of an independent parliamentary candidate within the Wulensi Constituency.”

The notification further emphasizes that such actions undermine the principles of loyalty and discipline upheld by the NPP. It references Article 3(5)(A)(1), which mandates all party members to “uphold, promote, and defend the good name of the Party and ensure that the objectives and principles of the Party are respected and upheld at all times.”

This suspension highlights the party’s commitment to maintaining internal discipline and loyalty among its members as it prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
