Angel FM’s Jeffery Amoah says no one in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) dares to remove the Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif from office.
The journalist revealed that it will be politically imprudent by the NPP to remove the Sports Minister who is a Member of Parliament (MP) in an area the party cannot risk losing.
“I had a conversation about the ministry and the minister himself and take it from me, in the three (3) months left to election, he (Sports Minister) is not going anywhere. I am giving you the reason why he is not going anywhere. Politically, where he is MP, the constituency is an NDC seat,” he disclosed.
Mustapha Ussif, is the Member of Parliament for Yagaba / Kubori, a constituency which is considered a seat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Giving a history of the for Yagaba / Kubori seat, Jeffrey shared that the NDC had the seat up until 2012, where Mustapha Ussif won the seat for the NPP. He however lost it to the NDC in 2016, only to reclaim it in 2020, with over 65% of votes cast.
“Ït (Yagaba/Kubori) is a highly contested seat and he (Mustapha Ussif) won it from the NDC. So with 3 months to the election, politically, it won’t make sense to remove the minister. So it will be very difficult for anyone to touch him,” Jeffrey reiterated.
President Akufo-Addo recently removed the National Sports Authority (NSA) boss, Dodzie Numekevor. His removal came after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned Ghana from playing its home matches at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the nation’s only pitch which meets international standards. Prior to his appointment, Professor Peter Twumasi was the NSA boss.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has surprisingly survived two NSA boss’ and calls for his removal, a feat many deem as remarkable.
