The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the 2024 voters’ register, calling the reasons provided “flimsy.”

In an 8-page response to the NDC, the EC announced plans to re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voters Register (PVR) online, citing logistical constraints that make a nationwide physical exhibition unfeasible before the upcoming general elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has yet again rejected calls from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a forensic audit of the Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR).

The EC maintains that the legal and administrative processes established to clean the register have not been fully exhausted, and thus a forensic audit is not justified at this stage.

This stance was communicated in a letter addressed to NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, following the party’s petition submitted after a demonstration on September 17.

“As a Commission, we are of the view that the existing legal and administrative processes for cleaning the PVR have not been fully exhausted to justify the call for a forensic audit,” the EC stated.
the EC reiterated its commitment to delivering its mandate, urging the NDC and the public to trust the established processes for addressing any concerns with the register.

The EC further assured the NDC and the general public that it has addressed the majority of discrepancies identified in the Provisional Voter’s Register.

It added that this process, which was successfully executed during the 2020 general elections, will once again be repeated for the upcoming 2024 elections.

However, Mohammed Madhi Jibril, the NDC’s deputy director of elections, dismissed the EC’s justifications, asserting that they lack credibility and do not adequately address the party’s concerns.
