With Ghana’s sports infrastructure in a deplorable state over poor management, Media Officer of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has advised the government to invest revenues gained from betting taxes to finance sporting facilities in the country.

His call comes on the back the poor state of Ghana’s stadiums which has led to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), asking Ghana to find alternative pitches/venues for their home games in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

According to him, revenue generated from sports betting must be invested into sport and not used to entirely fund other ventures.

“I think we should start changing our mentality. There’s a lot of money the government is making from sports betting in this country, and I’m sure one day the government might collect over a million dollars in sports betting taxes alone.

Why can’t we allocate some of this money towards stadium maintenance and hire the right, qualified people to manage the facilities? Political appointments can be made in other areas, but we need technical experts to ensure our stadiums meet international standards,” he said in an interview.
