In a recent rally speech NAPO happen to express his opposition to the outright ban of small-scale mining. He assured natives in minning communities that “everybody must eat.”

“We will give everyone excavator for them to go and work in their concessions, as everyone will get something to do,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh assured the crowd.

His statement signals a pro-mining stance but shockingly comes amid the ongoing debate on how best to tackle the environmental and social challenges posed by galamsey, a contentious issue in Ghana for years.

NAPO’s comments were also a direct critique of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), after accusing them of advocating for a “shoot and kill” method to address the galamsey menace.
