The Ghana Police Service has gone back to its days as the Ghana Police Force as it continues to treat Ghanaians who were arrested in the Democracy Hub demonstrations inhumanely.

In a video captured when protestors were arraigned before court earlier today, the media caught up with some family members of protestors.

Their family members raised a number of concerns, most of these concerns disheartening. These concerns ranged from police denying access to protestors, the police starving protestors of food and water, and most critically the police denying sick demonstrators access to healthcare and medication.

One may family member of a bystander rounder as part of demonstrators revealed her sister suffered from diabetes, asthma and glaucoma. Scared for the safety of his sister, he further revealed a police officer named Ken had called from the police headquarters to inform him his sister was in a bad condition.

“Today, I received a call and the person introduced himself as inspector Ken and that he was speaking from the national police headquarters. He told me my sister wasn’t fine and so we should come and checkup on her as a family.

I got there and I was denied access to her. I called the number several times and no response,” he lamented.

A police woman stationed at the police headquarters; Agyepong also called the number of inspector Ken severally but to no avail. “I told her (Agyapong) I received a call from this number and this is the situation…that my sister who is diabetic and asthmatic and is battling glaucoma is here. And I am told she is not fine I want to check up on her. She took the number and called severally and the number didn’t pick up,” he added.

The distraught man after being alerted of her sister being held at the Kaneshie police station rushed there, only to be denied access to her.

“As a family we have nothing to say. If our sister dies today, we have sacrificed her for the betterment of all of us. At least sometimes it should take some committed member of the country to fight for the illegality. Galamsey will kill us and continue to kill all of us,” he noted.
