Ghana’s star pilot and the first Ghanaian to fly the world’s biggest passenger aircraft, Emirates’ Airbus A380, Captain Solomon Quainoo, says he has a fear of driving on roads and prefers flying at all times.

“I’d rather be in the air than on the ground. When I get on the road, I’m scared when I see all the people crisscrossing and the honking vehicles and okadas, not just in Ghana but everywhere, it scares me”, he said.

This came up during Capt. Quainoo’s recent interview on The Day Show on TV3, while he was sharing with host, Berla Mundi some detail about his life as a pilot and his experience flying the world’s biggest passenger aircraft.

He assured that flying is the safest form of transportation, hence, his preference of being in the air more times compared to driving on roads. “Aviation is the safest form of transport. In the UK, they did a survey some years ago and the statistics show that the number of people that die on UK roads is equivalent to one jumbo jet crashing everyday but how many times do we get a plane crash? Maybe once every ten years until recently that Boeing has had it’s own issues but planes don’t crash easily”, the captain maintained.

Capt. Quainoo further assured that anyone who’s comfortable with transportation by car has all the confidence they need to be in the skies, hence, there is no need to be scared of being on a plane as it is an even safer mode of transport with less reports of crashes compared to driving on roads.
