Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, a founding member of Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed concern about the economic challenges awaiting the next government in 2024. He specifically highlighted the country’s depleted financial resources and mounting debt, warning that the new administration will inherit a “significant debt burden.”
He emphasized that the reliance on the Primary Balance, which excludes critical financial obligations like interest payments, arrears, and amortization, paints an incomplete picture of Ghana’s economic health.
According to Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, the situation is worsened by sacrifices made by both domestic and external lenders, who have already experienced major financial losses.
In addition to his economic warnings, Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe called for President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency over the illegal mining crisis, known as “galamsey,” stressing the need for urgent action on this issue.
