The Ghana Police Service has sent a stern warning to organizers of the Democracy Hub to desist from protesting at the 37 intersection and other unapproved locations.
On the first day of their demonstration the protestors blocked the intersection with vehicles and stones, setting fires in the intersection, harassed road users, abusing Police officers, banging on vehicles and even playing football in the road which the Ghana Police Service described as unGhanaian, uncivil and unlawful acts.
In a statement signed by the assistant Commissioner of Police Director of Public Affairs Grace Ansah-Akrofi on Sunday, September 22, “following a dispute between the Ghana Police Service and the Democracy Hub over the choice of location for their planned demonstration, the Police launched a special operation to safeguard safety, security, law, and order in the city”, the police statement read.
The Police in the statement warned leaders of the Democracy Hub that they will deploy lawful measures to maintain order if they insist on protesting at the 37 intersection or at any unauthorized locations.
