The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has receieved intense criticim from forrmer Ghana international, Derek Boateng over the country’s poor stadium pitches.
The Ghanaian legend pointed out that the FA (GFA) is only concerned about making money, and lining their pockets rather than focusing on the welfare of players.
“The only thing they care about is money. We have players coming from Europe to play on a sh**t pitch, and you expect them to perform well and win games? If the FA cares about football, they have to make sure those things [fixing pitches] are done before the players come [in October].”
Derek Boateng who is saddened by the poor nature of the country’s pitches and the lack of concern for players by the FA, urged them (FA) to quickly take steps to bring the pitches to standard. “The FA has to make sure that all the fields are good for the players to play.”
Ghana’s only pitch, approved for category 3 games (international games), the Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from hosting the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) qualifiers. CAF banned the pitch citing substandard pitch required for CAF/FIFA senior international matches.
However, the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, says the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums are in prime shape for CAF/FIFA international games.
Although CAF is yet to inspect and approve the pitches, Mr. Boyoyo is confident he Black Stars will play their home game against Sudan in the 2025 African Cup in Ghana.
