Galamsey kingpin Wontumi walking freely while protesters are in jail

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has condemned the arrest of some 54 members of Democracy Hub protesters by the Ghana Police Service.

Mr. Kpebu making an appearance on TV3 Key points questioned why the protesters were arrested and are still in police custody while Chairman Wontumi is walking freely after being fingered in galamsey activities.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi is the owner Akonta Mining Company Limited operating illegally in the Nimri Tano Forest reserve in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.

Martin Kpebu stated, “Chairman Wontumi who has degraded the Tano Forest is walking free, the IGP still has his office, and the CID boss still has her office. Then these young people come to draw our attention, and they get thrown into custody”.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 54 protesters charged with conspiracy to commit a crime are currently in remand waiting for their court hearing.
