According to the journalist, the NPP’s claim of protecting the poor from e-levy charges by exempting GHc100 transactions from the tax as is false, as lesser amounts attract e-levy charges.

In an interview on Metro TV, Miracles Aboagye said, “the act (e-levy) says you as an individual, as a citizen would enjoy just Ghc100 exemption a day, that’s what it says. The idea is for people who are extremely poor and really struggle on day to day basis to be exempted from the charges.

And I have heard people make the argument that Ghc100 is small and that it should be increased and if you want to protect the poor….and I always wonder how many people or if those who say they understand those of us who are poor go through. Because really how many poor people are able to spend Ghc100 everyday.”

Bridget Otoo took to X to react to an interview where Communications Director for the NPP flagbearer, Miracles Abaogye claimed exemptions were offered to the poor in the e-levy tax, thus the exemption of daily transactions of Ghc100.00 from the tax, “E levy is taxed on even 10 cedis, why do we allow such lies to continue?”
