The Ghana Police Service, has sent across a severe warning to people involved in the Democracy Hub demonstration against illegal mining.
Democracy Hub demonstrators have taken over the streets of the capital regardless of the police advising them against it.
Videos from the demonstration has shown demonstrators burning party paraphernalia in the middle of the streets, causing severe traffic jams9
The Ghana Police Service has raised concerns over this behavior, advising them to cease and desist.
In a statement, the police urged the demonstrators to refrain from such actions, calling them “uncivil, unpatriotic, and un-Ghanaian,” as depicted in images and videos circulating online.
With things seemingly getting out of hand, the Ghana Police Service has deployed additional officers across the city to ensure the smooth movement of traffic and maintain security, law, and order.
The Ghana Police Service has warned that it will hold the organisers of the planned Occupy Jubilee House protest responsible for any breaches of the Public Order Act if they go ahead with their demonstration on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
The protest, organised by Democracy Hub, aims to raiawareness about illegal mining activities and was scheduled to take place at the Revolution Square, opposite the Jubilee House.
However, the police secured an injunction against the protest, citing concerns about possible public disorder due to the chosen venue.
Despite this, a meeting was held between the police and Democracy Hub to reach a compromise, but no agreement was reached on a new venue.
