Larry Madowo In a post on X stated,“Ghana’s president is speaking in New York this morning at the UN General Assembly this morning, while back at home there is outrage over the continued detention of the peaceful protesters against illegal mining”.

“Some of them have been denied bail, access to medical care, and people are raising their voices about the human rights violation by the Ghana Police Service and also by what they see as the court attempt to deny them their constitutional guaranteed rights”, he added.

The info minister in a sharp rebuttal has since reacted to the social media post by CNN’s Larry Madowo accusing him of not checking his sources and not reporting both sides of the story in his publications that will impact the image of her country Ghana.

Fatimatu Abubakar stated, “Ghana has always supported citizens’ right to demonstrate peacefully. However, acts of vandalism, attacks on police and disruptions to public order will always be contained by the Police in any jurisdiction. Ghana’s courts are also mature enough to examine evidence against accused persons and make appropriate decisions.

About 50 protesters of the Democracy Hub who pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime are currently in remand waiting for their court hearing.
