In a concerning development, $3 million worth of drones intended to combat illegal mining (galamsey) have reportedly gone missing, raising questions about government oversight.
In a post on X, The Fourth Estate, have asked for more clarity from both the Presidency and National Security on the matter, “$3m galamsey drones missing? – Presidency & National Security lack answers”.
The missing drones were part of an initiative aimed at curbing the environmental damage caused by galamsey operations.
Some unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were meant to monitor illegal mining activities in hard-to-reach areas, offering a technological edge in the fight against this growing menace.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, officials from the Presidency and National Security are yet to provide answers or details on how the drones disappeared, sparking public outrage and calls for an immediate investigation.
The absence of accountability has only intensified concerns about corruption and inefficiency in tackling the galamsey problem.
The public is now demanding swift action and transparency from the government as the disappearance threatens to undermine ongoing efforts to protect the environment and regulate mining activities.
