The Nyinahin Multipurpose Sports Complex, which cost the country $2.5 million to construct has been left to rot. During the rainy season, Parts become muddy, rendering it unsuitable for football. The room compartments are housing spiders and cobwebs, while air-conditioners and ceiling fans are rusting.
Originally part of a government initiative launched in 2017 to build ten Multipurpose Youth Resource Sports Complexes, the Nyinahin facility was meant to feature a FIFA-standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, and courts for basketball, tennis, and volleyball, among other amenities.
Despite a grand inauguration by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2019, the complex has been abandoned since 2020, turning into a breeding ground for pests and wildlife.
A recent visit by @aristotledada revealed that the FIFA-standard pitch is now overgrown with weeds, and trees are sprouting from the center.
The designated running tracks are similarly overrun with vegetation, leaving only the spectator stands somewhat intact, while the washrooms remain in decent condition.
Nyinahin Sports Complex, located just a 10-minute drive from the townβs main entrance and home to former Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, stands as a stark reminder of unfulfilled promises in the Ashanti Region.
