Seventeen trafficked girls from Nigeria have been rescued in Ghana and have been repatriated back to their home country after a combined security work by Ghana’s Anti-Human Trafficking Police and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
The reports also suggest that five of the traffickers have been arrested.
According to a statement issued on Sunday signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of the Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit at NIDCOM.
Part of the statement reads, “This was sequel to the combined and coordinated efforts of the Ghanaian Anti-Human Trafficking Police, Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) Ghana, and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra”.
The statement indicated that the rescued young girls, ages 18 to 29, come from various states in Nigeria and were lured to Ghana with the pretense of providing them with jobs.
Meanwhile, Traffickers have been warned more than ever that Ghana is no longer a haven for them.
