The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi Ghanaians has stated that Ghanaians are pleased with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh leadership.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere in Kumasi, Chairman Wontumi praised Napo’s track record as both the Minister for Education and Energy, arguing that his competence makes him the ideal Vice Presidential candidate for the NPP.
“When we set up our first policy, Free Senior High School, he was in charge. The same Napo, when he was transferred from education to the energy ministry, he was equally good. It’s about the policies, making sure they are good,” Wontumi said, highlighting Napo’s role in the successful implementation of the Free SHS policy.
Napo, who served as Minister for Education from 2017 to 2021, was recognized as Ghana’s Best Minister in both 2017 and 2019.
He later took charge of the Ministry of Energy from 2021 until his resignation in July 2024, following his selection as the NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate.
Chairman Wontumi further issued a direct challenge to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging its Vice Presidential candidate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, to face Napo in a debate.
He stated that such a debate would allow Ghanaians to judge which running mate is better suited for the Vice Presidency.
